Chris Handy

Chris has a Doctorate in Business Administration, a Master of Law degree, Fellowship of the Institute of Housing and membership of the British Institute of Management.

Chris was awarded an OBE in 2009 for service to housing and has been Chief Executive of Accord and its precursors for over 20 years, previously working as a Housing Director and working in local government at Wolverhampton, Telford and Birmingham.

As a published author with titles including ‘Housing Associations: The Law of Social Landlords’ (written jointly with Professor John Alder) and ‘Discrimination in Housing’, Chris also sits on the editorial board for the Journal of Housing Law and regularly contributes articles to the Journal. His interests include human rights and diversity.

Chris is also a non-Executive Director of the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority and sits both on the Board and the Audit & Risk Committee, as well as chairing the HR subgroup of the health authority. He is a Board member of WATMOS (Walsall Alliance of Tenant Management Organisations) and a member of several Midlands local authority partnerships and committees.

Previously, Chris was a Housing Corporation statutory appointee on Severnside Housing’s Board (Chair). He is a member of the National Council of the National Housing Federation and of the NHF’s West Midlands Regional Executive Committee. He is married with twin daughters and lives near Stourbridge,
