Sebastian Yuen

Sebastian is a clinical leader, educator and innovator. During his training, he specialised in medical education and quality improvement (NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, 2008-10). He joined George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton, as a consultant paediatrician, to help create a new networked model of care. He believes the future of healthcare will be closer to home, integrated and supported by technology and better staff engagement. Our new service is consultant-delivered, has no on-site in-patient facility and aims for continuous quality improvement.

Sebastian is working with the Chief Nursing Officer of NHS England to engage doctors in improving Care, Compassion, Competence, Commitment, Courage and Communication, the 6Cs. Locally, he is starting a programme to improve staff experience and wellbeing.

He is Chapter Leader of Health 2.0 Birmingham. This connects clinicians, patients, managers and developers to test ways to solve challenges the NHS faces. As an example, he used the FitBit Flex wearable device to help him lose 25% of his weight in eight months.

Sebastian has been selected as a Health Service Journal Rising Star (2014). He was invited to join the HealthXL Global Gathering for the top 200 most innovative entrepreneurs, thought leaders, investors and corporates in digital health.
