Alan Cornwall

Alan is the Managing Director of Marshvale Investments and Transition Director at Galen Partners, and specialises in turnaround management, giving assistance with crisis management to owner/managed SMEs. He undertakes intensive on-site engagements, diagnosing strengths and weaknesses and prescribing remedial solutions, and provides insolvency management services. Alan has 15 years direct experience in providing counselling and advice to Small and Medium Enterprises. He specialises in rescue and recovery, financial planning and restructuring, and corporate funding. Alan has 5 years experience as an Investment Executive, taking client projects to investment-readiness, and locating suitable Investors, and is currently training as an NVQ Assessor. He has been involved as acting CEO in rescuing companies in security, IT consultancy and manufacturing implementing company voluntary arrangements, new business models and management systems and controls and ISO9001 certifications. Alan covers all levels in the life cycle - start ups, young enterprises, ethnic and women-led businesses, established businesses, new technology.

Following graduation from London University Alan entered the Ceramic Industry as a Production Management Trainee. After 4 years, he rose to Deputy Works Manager of a Unit employing 500 people, he joined a Multi-National in a Technical Sales Role and progressed through to Marketing Management. Four years with a FTSE100 British Company saw roles in Export Management and Marketing of Technical Products to Industry. Further experience came with top level responsibilities for Small Businesses, including owner/directing an Engineering Contracting Business.

Alan's qualifications include B.Sc. Hons. (1972) Microbiology - University of London and a Diploma in Business Excellence from Newcastle College. He is a past member of the Institute of Ceramics, Institute of Refractory Engineers and Institute of Marketing, and belongs to the Associate of the Institute of Business Advisors.
