Simon Overduin

Simon received his Ph.D. in Systems Neuroscience from MIT, following a B.Sc. in Biology & Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University (Canada). His academic research has included a focus on the learning and control of motor skills (manual and vocal), including their optimization and neural underpinnings. More recently, he has developed experimental and computational techniques to understand how the brain is involved and changed when subjects communicate or are engaged in covert mental rehearsal. He has presented his research in a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles, while serving in turn as an ad hoc reviewer for 17 journals. His research has also given him over 15 years of expertise in big-data analytics (in manipulating terabyte-scale physiological datasets), and in software and web development. In 2013, he finished a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley in order to focus full-time on entrepreneurial ventures, in particular his neuroscience-inspired educational technology start-up NeuRecall Inc. Since 2008, he has also consulted for a number of other for-profit and not-for-profit companies in the US, Canada, and the UK, operating in the areas of neurotechnology, scientific consulting, and academia-industry partnerships.
