Louise Leong

Louise is Head of Research & Development at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. The ABPI’s innovation priorities centre on maintaining a leading environment for the discovery and development of new innovative medicines, and maximising the industry’s investment in R&D. Louise has responsibility in areas critical to the development of medicines for unmet medical need – for example, evolving R&D paradigms, open innovation, translational medicine, stratified or personalised medicine, and valuing innovation – and works with external stakeholders to drive success.

Louise was Science Director of Stem Cells for Safer Medicines, and her experience in other sectors include at the Wellcome Trust, managing the funding of biomedical science and science policy; and in Academe holding fellowship, research and teaching appointments in Cambridge.

Louise is active in the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations. She is a Fellow of the Society for Biology, and obtained a PhD in immunology from Cambridge University.
