Catherine Burke

Catherine Burke joined Freeth Cartwright in 2011. Catherine advises on, amongst other things, energy projects in the wind, solar and biomass sectors; financial incentive mechanisms for renewable energy including the renewables obligation and the new feed-in tariffs; energy supply agreements and regulatory issues. Her clients include large energy consumers, generators and project developers. Catherine has worked in a variety of sectors ranging from defence to education, but in recent years has focused on energy.

"I am fascinated by the energy sector. It is probably the fastest growing area of the economy with numerous organisations looking to capitalise on the opportunities that the climate change and renewable energy agendas are presenting. The market is massive with everyone affected to some extent whether personally or in their business and real strides are needed to meet the Government’s goals. This means that established businesses are having to change and manage that change not only to avoid the “stick” of climate change legislation but to take advantage of the “carrots”. Sound opportunities also mean that he environment is right for the entrepreneur and for investors.

Catherine's expertise in project finance is recognised in the Legal 500.
