Cancer Treatment, Diagnosis and Clinical Trials
Professor Philip Johnson, Director of the Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit, University of Birmingham, which runs up to forty trials at any one time, encompassing all stages of drug development from 'first use' studies to large randomized trials involving up to ten thousand patients.
The Brain Tumour Research Centre
Professor John Darling, Dean of the School of Applied Sciences and Director of the Research Institute in Healthcare Science, University of Wolverhampton, is focusing on the development and testing of novel therapeutics for malignant brain tumours.
Biomarkers: from R&D to clinical studies
Dr Subhasis Banarjee, Director of Origin Biomarkers and based at Heartlands Hospital, won support from Advantage West Midlands to commercialise new immunodiagnostic assays for pregnancy disorders, and is developing biological markers for cancer and inflammatory disorders.
Meeting clinical needs through innovative technologies
Professor Monica Spiteri, Director of Lung Research at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire and Keele University, is developing near patient technologies for Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease with support from the National Institute of Health Research and NHS West Midlands Innovations.
Future Directions in Healthcare
Dr Alan Davies, Chief Medical Officer at GE Healthcare, presents on the convergence of biology, imaging, and information technology, revealing how large scale change can be implemented for the treatment of cancer, stroke and rheumatoid arthritis.
Format
- People will gather for refreshments from around 5:30pm.
- A set of engaging short talks will begin at 6pm, followed by a panel discussion.The discussion will be moderated by Tony Davis and Chris Dyke of MedilinkWM.
- Food and drinks will be served, along with plenty of time for networking and discussion.
