Climate change offers unprecedented challenges and opportunities.
Science Capital and the Lunar Society are offering Food, Fuel and Future: Strategies for a Changing World as an exciting new event to explore the solutions and strategies for adapting to our shared future.
Leading scientists at universities and companies from across the region will present and discuss innovative hydrogen fuel, photovoltaic, wind and biomass systems that could power your future home, car and hand held devices.
Speakers
Julia King, Vice Chancellor of Aston University will present the latest thinking from the Committee on Climate Change, revealing how the UK can adapt to climate change. Julia is a member of the Committee on Climate Change, a member of the Board of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and was appointed by the Prime Minister in December 2009 as the UK’s Low Carbon Business Ambassador.
Malcolm McIntosh directs the Asia Pacific Centre for Sustainable Enterprise at the Griffith Business School, Queensland, Australia. He will speak on the emerging low carbon economy from the perspective of the Asia Pacific region.
Jonathan Seville is one of the UK’s leading research engineers and has recently been appointed as the Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick. He will talk about the Advantage West Midlands /Torver Bioenergy test facility and NOx formation and abatement in biomass combustion.
Kevin Kendall directs the University of Birmingham’s Fuel Cell Group, spun out Adelan, and is part of the £80million Science City Consortium. He will present on hydrogen fuel cells, whole-systems optimisation and vehicle downsizing as the way forward for low carbon transport.
Catherine Burke will moderate the meeting. Catherine is a partner in the energy and projects team at Martineau advising on, amongst other things, energy projects in the wind, solar and biomass sectors; financial incentive mechanisms for renewable energy including the renewables obligation and the new feed-in tariffs; energy supply agreements and regulatory issues.
Experts from every university in the West Midlands are joining together with the private sector to deliver on the climate change agenda. Plans for individual innovators and the business community to succeed in the sector will be formulated over food and drinks.
Format
- People will gather for refreshments from around 5:30pm.
- A set of engaging short talks will begin at 6pm, followed by a panel discussion.
- Food and drinks will be served, along with plenty of time for networking and discussion.
